We're on a mission. Our old nature must die so that Christ in us can shine. We cannot shine His light as we should if we're living in darkness or confusion. Oswald Chambers said, "Spiritual confusion can only be conquered through obedience." It has cost me much of my old self while I experienced this very truth. Good! It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me (Galatians 2:20). As John the Baptist once said, I must decrease so that He may increase (John 3:30).
Are you that light in your community? It comes with an enormous responsibility. It comes to all believers, whether we like it or not. Whether we choose to do our part or not is a different story.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket:
This may be common sense, but then why do we cover the light that was lit inside us when we came to Christ? We, as believers, fail too often to take on the role as Christ's ambassadors that was given to us. We no longer belong to ourselves; we have been bought with the precious blood of Christ. The question is, are we willing to truly surrender and yield to His will?
A lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house:
I often wonder what would happen if every believer in my own community, who claims to be a follower of Jesus, would take the Great Commission to heart. If we'd all get an epiphany of what it truly means and the responsibility we carry. We can be a vessel for God, be His hands and feet, be intercessors and stand in the gap for many, in prayer. The joy of our salvation would result in a fire within, burning with desire to share the Good News that God saves and is waiting to forgive those who repent and turn from the world, to Him. Our lives can be that light in our homes, in our cities. They're SUPPOSED to be. Building relationships with people, getting involved, getting out of our comfort zone, starting or joining a ministry, being unapologetically bold in our faith, are all some examples of being a light, or rather, letting HIS light, shine through us. Jesus wasn't politically correct. We must not be afraid of standing alone. It is that courage, that light in the dark that can be used to change lives. We can be bold and respectful at the same time.
Let your good deeds shine for all to see:
I have a HUGE issue with people seeing my works. This blog and even this website have been one of the hardest things I've ever done. I am afraid of ever feeling more important than I really am. I was mistaken. Not because I, in no way, consider myself a proud or conceited person, but because in trying to hide things, I was unintentionally focusing too much on myself. That was one disadvantage. The most important disadvantage when we hide things we do for the Lord from others, is that we do people a disservice.
What inspires you? Was it a book you read? A friend? An artist? Whatever it may be or have been, something inspired us. What sort f inspiration or difference can our lives have if everyone hid everything they did? We mustn't do that. We are to walk humbly with our God, but let His name be known by the work that we do. Not just the fruit of it, which God is in charge of, but the process. You never know who may be watching and the inspiration God, through you, can create in them. He will be glorified. We have the honor, the possibility, of being part of that. Don't hide. Let your good deeds shine.
So that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father:
That is what we work for; to glorify God and help others know Him. It is no small job we have. Being of Royal status shouldn't make our heads swell and assume "entitled" honor. Leadership, Heavenly Royalty, and status, are for service. For even Jesus, being the King of Kings and Creator of all, didn't come to be served, but to serve others and give His life as ransom for many (Mark 10:45)
Don't overthink! Confusion isn't made clear through much thought, but rather, by surrendering and yielding to the Creator. Spend time in prayer and ask God to give you boldness to shine His light in your world. Pray a dangerous prayer! We don't have to and we won't know everything. Let's experience the undeserved honor of being His representatives here on earth to the fullest! Don't let insecurities hold you back; stand firm in Him.
