I find it amazing how we don't know that there is so much we don't know! (This makes sense to me!) We are seriously walking around, aimlessly, if we don't know God and His Word. But this takes time. It takes studying. It takes willingness and discipline. It takes a true desire to know the One that made it all.
Many of us are praying for loved ones to get saved. We grieve at the condition of their godless lives, and their unwillingness to surrender to God. We share the Word when the opportunity arises, careful not to be too "preachy," for fear of turning them off. We are mocked, insulted, ignored, and dismissed.
Don't give up.
Their hardened, stubborn, or blind hearts are no match for God, Who loves them more than we ever could. His love is perfect and pure. Make the most of every opportunity, but don't lose heart.
It is not our responsibility to change anyone. This is a matter of sin and unbelief, and only the Holy Spirit can open minds and hearts, revealing God's plan of salvation through Jesus.
What do we do, then, when our words seem to fall on deaf ears?
Here's an acrostic, using the word "REST," which we should find in God:
Establish boundaries for yourself.
Share the Word without compromising Truth.
Trust God- no matter what.
It won't be easy to set boundaries, but it is for our own benefit and well-being.
It won't be easy to share about sin and its consequences, but we must speak truth.
It won't be easy to trust God, yet it is essential. Let's be done with unbelief.
Everyone has a choice to make: remain in the world, or embrace God's love and standards.
We cannot make the choice for anyone. We all stand on our own faith; we know this well.
No matter the outcome, we can trust God in that it will be fair, and every chance was given.
It is exciting to see God work miracles in the hearts of every sinner. I have witnessed people's changed hearts that completely overwhelmed me. I needn't wonder what ever took place- it was all God! Only He can change people, convict hearts, and turn an atheist into a believer, a drunkard into a godly man, and a broken heart into a song of praise!
Never lose hope. Lose the burden. Lose the hopelessness. Lose the need to criticize the sinner. But never lose hope. God still works miracles today, and He loves that person you're praying for.
Model what it means to be a follower of Christ. Don't compromise to keep an open conversation with them. You might go through a silent period. Their schedules, behaviors, and environments might cause a division for a while. Keep praying. Keep looking for opportunities. Get involved. It doesn't mean you must participate in sin. It means we can take God's light into the darkness and still shine His righteousness, stand for our beliefs, and demonstrate unshakable faith.
The cry of your heart has reached God's ears. He is moved. He loves them, too, and He is using you.
Stay strong. Stay focused. Pray without ceasing.
