For a few months I have been considering organizing some kind of ministry in our community that would help provide families in need with clothes, food, and basic essentials. I know very well how it feels to go without or with very little. I know the pride involved in refusing to ask for help. I also know God's provision through others and through miracles.
It takes one person. It takes one person to start a movement of hope. It takes one person, willing to organize and execute, delegate and oversee. Then pray for other laborers to join because it's easy to spread oneself too thin!
Taking the first step may be hard, but it will be a step that can potentially change someone's life, as we show the love of Jesus; as we walk in our purpose, our goal to be the hands and feet of our Savior.
I spoke with a young girl in my son's school yesterday. I asked how she was doing and how her family was doing (I know her mother and have spoken to her on several occasions). One simple question: "How are you?" Her honest answer:
"Not good. My mom has a lot of stress because we don't have money. My mom has hardly any clothes and my little sister needs pants. It's cold and she only has shorts...."
Wow..my heart broke and reminded me of how we often keep our trials to ourselves. This wonderful lady, God's own creation, is struggling emotionally, financially, and her darling daughter is aware.
I am currently collecting things to take to this family. A few friends and family have offered to check their own homes for things they can donate. I am humbled and emotional. I look forward to getting these things to this family. I hope to be able to do it anonymously. I don't know if she will be offended or upset with her daughter for sharing. Let's see what God does and how it goes!
But there are others! Let's keep our eyes and ears open. Let's pray without ceasing and keep our communities in prayer as well. Let's step out in faith. Let's encourage others to join in. If we all work together, we can certainly be used by God to make a huge difference, an impact in others' lives. Glory to God.
