BUT- I did share with a school mom this morning my plans to homeschool very soon. To my surprise, she didn't even know that was a possibility! She asked if it was legal and I shared with her some of the information I know. I was very surprised that she wasn't aware of this, but now that I think about it, it shouldn't surprise me that much.
I love where I come from and the richness of my Hispanic heritage. Unfortunately though, many of our people that have made lives for themselves here in the United States, have conformed and settled; they don't get informed of their options, and when they do, many often refuse to make changes. There are, of course, exceptions, as with anything. I am speaking in general and from what I have seen.
I started to think, as I drove home from school, "How many of these parents have absolutely no idea that homeschooling is even an option? A better option for many, at that?" Hmmmm... perhaps I'm not thinking big enough. Perhaps this calling is not just for me (it's never really about me), but maybe, just maybe- God wants to raise awareness in this community. How? Through yours truly; me. That's not because I'm special, but because I know about it. See, once you know something, you're responsible.
We are grateful for salvation through our Lord Jesus and we are called to share the Gospel. Why? Because we know! We have knowledge of His awesome plan for salvation and we want to share the gift with others, hoping they will accept the Lord.
In homeschooling, once you do your research and have actual facts and statistics, should you decide that it's right for your children and understand the reasons why, wouldn't it be right that you share with others what you have found? Yes, yes it would.
Now is the time to take this even more seriously and understand the purpose of raising awareness; it's time to take our families back!
May we refuse to conform to the world.
May we reject any selfish motives for keeping kids in school, such as refusing to give up our "free time" without them.
May we truly do our own research and decide what is best, having knowledge of truth rather than make an ignorant decision based on preconceived ideas.
Any fears I have at this point must be overcome by God's grace, wisdom, and strength. It's much easier to fight a battle and endure trials when it's not about us. Well, guess what- it's not about us.
